The task of the naming committee is to make proposals and provide statements on naming issues related to detailed plans and other naming matters. The commttee is appointed by the City Board.
The Land Use and Building Act requires that a street or other public area be assigned a name in a detailed plan. In Helsinki, the naming committee is responsible for proposing the names needed for detailed plans.
The naming committee has nine members. Each member has a personal deputy. The committee is composed of four representatives from the city and five external expert members.
Note: The naming committee does not produce formal decision documents. Since the committee includes members from outside the city administration, all members are listed on a separate page. Only the city's representatives on the committee are listed further down on this page.
